Desert Point (Bangko-Bangko) is one of Lombok’s most legendary surf breaks — a remote, dry west-coast reef known for long left-hand barrels when the swell, tide, and wind align. The landscape feels rugged compared with tourist beaches around Kuta or the Gilis: dry hills, rocky shoreline, and a serious wave that rewards experienced surfers.
When conditions are right, Desert Point produces hollow, fast walls that can run for hundreds of metres. Outside those windows the area stays quiet — a destination for committed travellers rather than casual day-trippers. How to Get Desert Point (Bangko-Bangko)
Desert Point sits on Lombok’s remote west coast near Bangko-Bangko / the Sekotong–Pelangan area. Most visitors need a private car and a flexible schedule — there is no busy tourist shuttle like south-coast beach hops.
- From Senggigi, Mataram, or Bangsal, allow roughly 1.5–3 hours by private car depending on road and traffic conditions.
- From the Gili Islands, take a private speedboat to Teluk Nare / Senggigi (or another west-coast hub), then continue by land toward Sekotong / Bangko-Bangko.
- From Kuta Lombok / Mandalika, plan a longer cross-island drive; many surfers overnight nearer the west coast when chasing a swell.
- Roads become narrower and more rural as you approach — a local driver who knows the access tracks is strongly recommended.
